On October 6 of this year, a meeting was held between Nozimjon Kholmurodov, Director of the Agency for the Development of Light Industry under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and Ben Maitland, Chief Communications Officer of the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI).
During the meeting, the parties agreed on the participation of the Uzbek delegation in the BCI Conference to be held in Morocco in January next year, as well as on the development of an international promotional program aimed at strengthening the reputation of Uzbek cotton and textile products in the global market.
The parties also discussed the development of a national cotton standard in line with BCI standards, drawing on the experience of Brazil, Greece, and the United States, and its recognition at the international level. This initiative is expected to further simplify the certification process for local cotton-textile clusters and farms.
Particular attention was also given to prospects for expanding access to international financial support for farmers.
Ben Maitland highly appreciated Uzbekistan’s ongoing efforts in the field of sustainable cotton production and expressed his gratitude to the Agency for its active cooperation.
