The Better Cotton Initiative Large Farm Week, an international week bringing together representatives from some of the world’s leading cotton-producing countries, has officially begun in Uzbekistan. The event was opened by Bakhtiyor Mukhammadsaidov, First Deputy Director of the Agency for the Development of Light Industry under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
In his opening remarks, he emphasized that cooperation with the Better Cotton Initiative plays an important role in developing Uzbekistan’s light industry in line with international standards, expanding opportunities for Uzbek textile products to enter global markets, and integrating producers into global supply chains.
The week brings together representatives from Australia, Brazil, Greece, Türkiye, Spain, the United States, and Uzbekistan, providing an international platform for the exchange of best practices and technologies, as well as discussions on sustainable production and modern cotton-growing solutions.
The systematic cooperation between the Agency and the Better Cotton Initiative is delivering tangible results:
-
Since the beginning of the year, the number of BCI-certified enterprises has reached 11;
-
Exports to European countries have increased by 19%;
-
By the end of the year, the number of BCI-certified enterprises is expected to reach 20;
-
The area of land where cotton is grown in accordance with BCI standards is expected to reach 32,000 hectares.
For the Agency, the broad implementation of Better Cotton standards is not merely a matter of certification. It is a strategic direction aimed at enabling Uzbekistan’s textile industry to enter new export markets, expand cooperation with international brands, and enhance the global competitiveness of “Made in Uzbekistan” products.
The Agency will continue its efforts to widely implement international standards across domestic production, establish a sustainable raw material base, and strengthen Uzbekistan’s position as a reliable global partner in the production of high-value-added textile products.
