As part of the official visit of the delegation of the Light Industry Development Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Republic of South Africa, the Agency's Deputy Director Rukhullo Zikrillayev held a meeting in Johannesburg with Mtho Khulu, President of the South African Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SACCI), and Alan Mukoki, the organisation's Chief Executive Officer.
During the meeting, the parties discussed ways to expand trade and economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and South Africa, strengthen collaboration in the light industry sector, and explore new investment and export opportunities.
For reference: SACCI is one of South Africa's leading business associations, representing approximately 20,000 enterprises through its network of regional chambers of commerce and playing an important role in promoting international trade and economic cooperation.
The SACCI leadership highly praised the economic reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan and highlighted the country's strong manufacturing and export potential. They also invited Uzbek manufacturers to participate in Manufacturing Indaba Expo, one of Africa's largest industrial exhibitions.
During the negotiations, the Uzbek side proposed jointly exploring the possibility of concluding a Preferential Trade Agreement between the two countries to facilitate the expansion of bilateral trade.
The parties also exchanged views on conducting a comparative assessment of the competitiveness of Uzbekistan's light industry products against similar products imported into the South African market from other countries.
At the conclusion of the meeting, an agreement was reached to organise a joint roundtable involving business representatives from Uzbekistan and South Africa. The event will promote direct business contacts, facilitate new trade initiatives, and strengthen industrial cooperation between the two countries.
