Today, September 18, the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan held a press conference at the Agency for Information and Mass Communications under the Presidential Administration on the topic:
“Performance of the Ministry of Ecology: Achieved Results, Future Plans, and Prospects for the Development of Environmental Education.”
The event was attended by the Deputy Minister of Ecology, the Head of the Department for Supervision of Environmental, Nature Protection and Forestry Legislation Execution under the General Prosecutor’s Office, the Deputy Director of the Forestry Agency, the Director of the Republican Center for Sanitary Cleaning, officials from the Ministry and its subordinate organizations, as well as media representatives and bloggers.
During the event, the Director of the Republican Center for Sanitary Cleaning, Sharifbek Hasanov, spoke about the essence and implementation of the Presidential Decree of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. 5 dated January 4, 2024, “On Measures to Improve the Waste Management System and Reduce Its Negative Impact on the Environment,” as well as the work carried out by the Center in the first half of the current year.
“In recent years, the issue of waste management has received significant state-level attention. This decree provided concrete and effective solutions to several long-standing problems in the field. One of the most serious issues was the disposal of medical waste together with household waste at landfills, which led to large emissions of greenhouse gases and contamination of groundwater, causing various diseases among the population.
According to the Presidential Resolution No. 263 dated July 17, 2024, a direct investment project worth USD 115 million is being implemented jointly with the U.S. company Sayar to produce alternative thermal energy by incinerating medical waste. The implementation of this project will help save budgetary funds and significantly reduce harmful gas emissions and disease rates among the population,” — said Sharifbek Hasanov.
He also noted that concrete agreements have been reached with Tadweer (UAE), China CAMC Engineering, Shanghai SUS Environment (PRC), and EkoVektor (Russia), with a total investment volume expected to reach USD 320 million.
During the event, journalists and bloggers received comprehensive answers to their questions.
At the end of the press conference, ministry representatives expressed gratitude to the media and bloggers, emphasizing their important role in the development of the environmental sector.
