On October 3, in celebration of the 30th anniversary of cooperation between the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Uzbekistan, the Agency for Waste Management and Circular Economy Development organized an environmental campaign — a plogging activity. More than 50 industry employees actively took part in the event. During the plogging, the coastal area of the Tashkent Sea was cleaned of over 300 kilograms of waste, which was removed with the help of special equipment.
This eco-event was held as part of the International Coastal Cleanup Week, one of the world’s largest social initiatives aimed at protecting and cleaning water bodies.
“Caring for the environment is, in fact, a daily responsibility that begins with small but consistent actions. We see that environmental initiatives in Uzbekistan are becoming increasingly active, and that’s very important because such actions contribute to global change. Today’s plogging is another step toward a cleaner and healthier planet. We sincerely thank the Agency for its cooperation. The Agency’s leadership in promoting sustainable waste management practices contributes to building a greener future for Uzbekistan,”
— said Kanokpan Lao-Araya, Country Director of the ADB’s Resident Mission in Uzbekistan.
Participants of the campaign also emphasized that every piece of waste collected is a step toward preserving nature, protecting it, and ensuring a clean and healthy planet for future generations.
For reference: the Asian Development Bank unites 69 member countries. Cooperation with Uzbekistan has been established since 1996, during which 117 joint projects have been implemented. All projects place special emphasis on environmental aspects, gender equality, and green energy, which serves as a testament to the strength of partnership and unity of development goals.
On the same day, as part of the eco-event, practical training workshops were held for industry employees. These sessions not only helped improve infrastructure and service quality, but also strengthened team spirit, collective responsibility, and the continued development of the sector.
