As is well known, particular attention in Uzbekistan is given to ensuring environmental sustainability, improving the surrounding environment, and enhancing the sanitary condition of territories. In particular, as part of efforts to create convenience for the population and foreign visitors in city centers and to further improve public areas, another important project has been implemented.
In the Samarkand region, the Department for Waste Management and Circular Economy Development has launched a complex consisting of two special semi-underground containers for household waste storage. The facility is located in the “Obod Maskan” mahalla of the Karasuv district in the city of Samarkand. The new system is designed to prevent waste scattering, reduce unpleasant odors during hot weather, and create comfortable conditions for citizens.
For information:
The underground waste storage complex is installed at a depth of 2 meters. Each of the two units contains 2 containers, making a total of 4 containers. The capacity of each container is 3 cubic meters, or 550 liters, allowing the complex to serve between 1,000 and 1,500 people. It is planned to build 5 more similar complexes in the future.
Local residents welcomed these effective measures, noting that previously, wind or animals would scatter garbage on the surface, but now a successful solution has been found.
Such projects will continue to be implemented across the republic in accordance with Presidential Decree No. 5 “On Measures to Improve the Waste Management System and Reduce Its Negative Impact on the Environment.”
