This process was implemented in cooperation with the Waste Management and Circular Economy Development Agency and the Norwegian company TOMRA, which operates in the field of automatic waste collection and sorting technologies, as part of a pilot project to stimulate the separate collection and recycling of plastic, glass, and aluminum beverage containers in Uzbekistan.
Now, residents will be able to hand over selected plastic, glass, and aluminum beverage containers to special vending machines and receive an incentive of 150 soums for each container. A citizen using the device can choose one of two options.
In the first case, 150 soums are paid for each container received. The funds will be transferred to the click electronic wallet. In the second option, the citizen can spend the money on charity. The proceeds from the sale of the collected dishes will be directed toward charitable purposes and tree-planting initiatives.
Fandomats allow for the separate collection and recycling of beverage containers without mixing them with other household waste. Secondary raw materials can be obtained from the selected materials and reused in the production of new products. This will serve to reduce the use of natural resources and reduce the discharge of waste into streets, water bodies, and landfills.
The project also aims to make waste sorting a daily habit and increase the environmental culture of the population. The initiative aims to demonstrate that used beverage containers are not just waste, but a recyclable resource with economic value.
If the pilot project proves successful, it is planned to gradually install fandomats in crowded places in other regions of the republic.
