According to WHO data, 15 percent of medical waste is considered hazardous, and improper management can lead to the spread of diseases, poisoning, and environmental pollution.

Studies have shown that in some institutions, hazardous waste is mixed with household waste and dumped at landfills or in unauthorized places.

In order to ensure the implementation of the Decree of the President of Uzbekistan No. 263 dated July 17, 2024, the American company "SAYAR LLC" has established the foreign enterprise "Sayar green," and an investment project worth 115 million US dollars is being implemented. However, the mechanism is not fully functioning because medical institutions do not deliver hazardous waste to the investor.

For example, despite the fact that the total daily capacity of the two equipment installed in Tashkent is 12 tons, in practice, only 3 tons of waste are delivered to them per day, and the equipment is operating at only 25 percent capacity.

During the study of the special commission for the first 6 months of 2026, it was found that a total of 3,239.05 m3 of medical waste was removed. The most polluting institutions in the capital included Clinical Hospital No. 16 (1,795.40 m3), Infectious Diseases Clinical Hospital No. 3 (445.44 m3), and the clinic of the Research Institute of Virology (382 m3).

Additionally, services were not provided in the manner prescribed by law at the Republican Children's Rehabilitation Center for Phthisiology and Musculoskeletal Diseases, the Tashkent city branch of the Center for Dermatovenerology and Cosmetology, the 1st Infectious Diseases Clinical Hospital, the Scientific and Practical Medical Center for Phthisiology and Pulmonology, and the Dermatovenereological Hospital.

Appropriate measures are being taken against the responsible persons in cases of violations. Similar control measures are also being carried out by the Special Commission and law enforcement agencies throughout the republic.
