The first integrated hazardous waste platform in the CIS region is considered a sustainable and efficient ecosystem for the treatment of hazardous waste. As part of the implementation of a project worth USD 260 million in 2026–2030, the processing and disposal of hazardous waste will be established.
Under the project, 6 transfer stations will be established in Navoi, Urgench, Bukhara, Karshi, Samarkand, Tashkent, and Fergana regions.
The project will include the establishment of a laboratory and the characterization of hazardous waste, stabilization of Class III hazardous waste, the creation of a specialized landfill, thermal treatment of hazardous waste, and the production of RDF fuel from waste.
According to the project:
- in 2027, a specialized landfill and database will be established;
- in 2028, engineering and research activities will be carried out;
- in 2030, plants for thermal waste treatment, RDF fuel production, and physico-chemical waste treatment will be constructed and commissioned.
International experience based on the exclusivity model of major countries such as the UAE, Saudi Arabia, France, and China is being studied for the effective management of certain types of hazardous waste.
Expected outcomes of the project:
- 80% of the workforce will be recruited locally;
- environmental sustainability will be ensured through the systematic management of hazardous waste;
- control mechanisms, new standards, and technologies, including know-how, will be introduced;
- knowledge exchange and scientific research will be carried out;
- long-term cooperation will be established.
