The event was organized within the framework of the SWITCH-Asia programme in cooperation with the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia and the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan. It is being attended by representatives of Central Asian parliaments, government agencies, international organizations, financial institutions, and the business community.
At the forum, Shukhrat Khaydar, Deputy Director of the Agency for Waste Management and Circular Economy Development, delivered a presentation on “Developing the Circular Economy in Uzbekistan.” He also highlighted the systematic reforms being implemented in the country in the areas of waste management and efficient use of resources.
“The main goal is to move away from the traditional ‘production–use–disposal’ model and establish a system based on the efficient use of resources and their gradual reintegration into the economy,” Shukhrat Khaydar noted.
On the first day of the forum, participants discussed issues related to improving the waste management system, introducing circular economy principles, attracting investments, and strengthening regional cooperation. Panel discussions, experience-sharing sessions, and practical visits were also organized.
For reference: today, nearly 15 million tons of waste are generated annually in Uzbekistan, and transforming waste into an economic resource is one of the most pressing tasks. In this area, a new legislative framework is being developed, investment projects are being implemented, and modern infrastructure is being formed. The circular economy not only ensures environmental sustainability but also serves as an important factor for economic growth, investment attractiveness, and the development of regional cooperation. As an active initiator in this field in Central Asia, Uzbekistan continues to make a meaningful contribution to sustainable development.
