The negotiations took place with representatives of the Chinese companies China CAMC Engineering Co., Ltd., Shanghai Sus Environment Co., Ltd., and Everbright Environmental Protection Ltd. The meetings were also attended by the heads and representatives of these companies in Uzbekistan, as well as Sharifbek Hasanov, Director of the Waste Management Agency.
During the meetings, the current stages of investment project implementation were reviewed, proposals were presented to further advance them, and next steps were discussed with due consideration of environmental and technological requirements. Special attention was paid to compliance with environmental standards and to the effective integration of these projects into the national waste management system.
Within the framework of cooperation with Chinese companies, a number of major infrastructure projects are being implemented in various regions of the country:
Everbright Environmental Protection Ltd. project:
In the Namangan and Fergana regions, it is planned to incinerate up to 3,000 tons of waste per day, generating 454.6 million kWh of electricity per year. The total project cost amounts to USD 283 million.
Shanghai Sus Environment Co., Ltd. project:
In the Kashkadarya and Samarkand regions, the processing of up to 3,000 tons of waste per day and the production of 480 million kWh of electricity annually are planned. The project value is USD 300 million.
China CAMC Engineering Co., Ltd. project:
In the Andijan and Tashkent regions, as well as in Tashkent city, it is planned to process up to 4,000 tons of waste per day and generate 630 million kWh of electricity per year. The project is estimated at USD 350 million.
The meetings confirmed the mutual interest of both sides in the consistent implementation of projects aimed at reducing landfill volumes, developing a circular economy, and increasing the share of alternative energy sources in Uzbekistan’s energy balance.
