Waste management and circular economy development agency

A meeting was held at the Agency for Waste Management and Development of the Circular Economy to discuss the establishment of a Public Council, with the participation of representatives of the National Association of Non-Governmental Non-Profit Organizations of Uzbekistan.

During the meeting, issues related to the development and strengthening of independent civil society institutions, ensuring guarantees of their free activity, establishing close cooperation between state bodies and citizens, ensuring openness, transparency, and publicity of state bodies’ activities, as well as introducing effective public oversight over the activities of state bodies were discussed.

The participants also considered matters of supporting non-governmental non-profit organizations and other civil society institutions, strengthening social partnership between state bodies and civil society, implementing public oversight, and improving the legal and regulatory framework governing this field.

Responsible officials exchanged views on the effective organization of public oversight in the field of waste management, existing challenges, and proposals for their resolution.

For reference: these measures are being implemented in accordance with the Resolution of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated July 4, 2018, No. PP-3837 “On Measures to Organize the Activities of Public Councils under State Bodies,” as well as the Presidential Decree dated June 16, 2021, No. UP-6247 “On Additional Measures to Ensure Openness of the Activities of State Bodies and Organizations, and the Effective Implementation of Public Oversight.”
