The meeting chaired by the head of our state also addressed the issue of improving the environmental and sanitary conditions at municipal solid waste landfills.
It was noted that by 2030, the number of municipal waste landfills is planned to be reduced by 50 percent. In particular, in recent years, the operation of 47 landfills has been discontinued and they have been reclaimed, returning 243 hectares of land back to nature.
However, it was pointed out that the majority of the 132 operating landfills still lack protective fencing, “green belts,” water supply systems, and environmental safety facilities.
“This negatively affects the environment and causes public dissatisfaction. Therefore, it is necessary to transform municipal waste landfills into environmentally safe zones. Above all, we must ensure public satisfaction with the work carried out in this area. We should approach this issue not only as waste management but also as a field closely linked to industry, energy, and environmental culture,” said the head of our state.
The responsible authorities were instructed to put the lands of the 47 reclaimed landfills back into secondary use, establish “green zones” on their territory, and implement new investment projects.
A task was set to create a “green belt” around all existing landfills, to complete tree and seedling planting at half of the landfills during the spring season, and at the remaining half during the autumn.
Starting from 2026, at least 150 billion soums will be allocated annually from the state budget for these activities.
