From now on, a new system will be applied within the framework of the nationwide “Green Space” project. This was defined in Presidential Decree No. 206 of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated September 23, 2026.
According to the Decree, the international “3-30-300” standard will be introduced to increase the level of greenery in mahallas. It provides for 3 trees for every person, 30 percent tree shade, and a green area within 300 meters. It is also planned to increase the number of green gardens and green public parks to 1,023 by 2030, create 257 green gardens and green public parks during the autumn season of 2026 within the framework of “Green Space”, and create at least 5 shaded walking streets in every district and city by 2030, with a total length of at least 10 km.
In addition, starting from October 1, 2026, a two-month nationwide campaign on cleanliness and improvement will be held in the republic. From October 1, the locations of green areas will be identified, land will be prepared, and stocks of seedlings and shrubs will be created. From November 1, 2026, in the Republic of Karakalpakstan and Khorezm, from November 5 in Bukhara and Navoi regions, from November 10 in Andijan, Jizzakh, Samarkand, Syrdarya, Namangan, Tashkent and Fergana regions, as well as Tashkent city, and from November 20 in Surkhandarya and Kashkadarya regions, the season for planting seedlings and shrubs will begin.
Furthermore, according to the Decree, from January 1, 2027, the “Mahalla Greening” package will be introduced within the “Green Mahalla” project. As part of the project, forestry specialists and mentors will be assigned to mahallas. Members of the “Mahalla Seven” will be trained before each planting season. They will provide citizens with information on planting, watering, mulching, compost preparation, tree care, and combating diseases and pests.
At the same time, starting from the autumn season of 2026, mahalla microforests will be created in mahallas with limited land areas, between multi-apartment buildings, and in school and kindergarten yards. On areas of 200–1,000 square meters, a dense planting method (in layers) of at least 2 tree and shrub seedlings per square meter will be applied. In areas where land cannot be allocated or where there are concrete and asphalt surfaces, small community gardens will be established.
