The draft law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On limiting the emission of greenhouse gases” has been adopted by the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis

The draft law defines the main principles of limiting greenhouse gas emissions, ownership of the reduced greenhouse gases, powers of state bodies in the field of limiting greenhouse gas emissions, and procedures for state accounting of greenhouse gas emissions.
The adoption of the draft law allows to perform reducing the emission of greenhouse gases in our country and regulating the trade of the resulting carbon units in international markets, as well as Uzbekistan’s obligations under the Paris Agreement within the framework of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
For information: The Republic of Uzbekistan committed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions per unit of gross domestic product by 35% by 2030 compared to the level of 2010 within the framework of the Paris Agreement.
Moreover, with this draft Law, the procedure for the formation and maintenance of the register of greenhouse gas emissions and the greenhouse gas cadastre, the rules for the implementation of carbon units circulation, the principles and procedures of the monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) system are provided.
In this regard, the Ministry of Economy and Finance is designated as competent body for the creation and maintenance of the register of carbon units directed to the international and domestic carbon market, as well as the implementation of trade of carbon units at the national and international levels.
