The meeting also addressed a range of issues, including public participation in the budget process through the “Participatory Budgeting” initiative, the role of youth in the economy, the development of digital services and FinTech, progress in education and demographic indicators, pilot projects in the areas of the green economy and energy efficiency, opportunities for technological cooperation with Canada, and the establishment of a joint working group.
Ambassador Christopher Duggan commended the wide-ranging reforms underway in Uzbekistan, as well as the IT Park infrastructure and the digital ecosystem. He noted that there are promising opportunities for cooperation with Canadian companies in the areas of energy efficiency, green technologies, innovative construction, and carbon neutrality.
The parties underscored the importance of advancing joint projects in the green economy, particularly the need to pilot and scale up energy-efficient technologies. It was noted that several pilot initiatives are currently being implemented in Uzbekistan, including the use of heat pumps, environmentally friendly refrigerants, and the construction of “net-zero” buildings, with plans to expand these efforts nationwide based on the results of the pilots.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the proposal to establish a joint working group was put forward. This working group will facilitate matchmaking between companies and experts of the two countries — aligning specific needs and opportunities, formulating cooperation projects, and supporting the practical implementation of pilot initiatives.
The Canadian side reaffirmed its continued support for Uzbekistan in the process of accession to the World Trade Organization. The parties agreed to maintain dialogue and advance cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
