Measures set to mark the Day of Remembrance and Honor and strengthen military training and support for service members

First, a report was presented on ongoing efforts to enhance the army’s combat readiness and introduce a modern system of education and professional training for personnel.

In particular, to maintain combat readiness, comprehensive strategic and command-staff exercises, field drills, and training courses are regularly conducted across the armed forces. Special attention is given to developing key combat qualities, including moral and psychological resilience, the ability to manage fear and emotions in real combat situations, and decisiveness.

Based on analysis of modern combat operations, new methods and forms of warfare are being integrated into all exercises and training activities. Measures are also being implemented to enhance unit mobility, strengthen combat capabilities, and improve the ability to carry out assigned tasks independently.

The annual nationwide observance of May 9 – the Day of Remembrance and Honor – as a national holiday reflects Uzbekistan’s policy of preserving peace, strengthening independence, honoring those who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the Motherland, and caring for war and labor veterans.

On the occasion of the holiday this year, a proposal has been made to grant each World War II participant and disabled veteran a one-time payment of 30 million soums.

In addition, on this day, special attention will be given to war participants, labor veterans, the older generation, and mentors. Measures are also planned to improve housing conditions for elderly and low-income veterans and to organize commemorative and ceremonial events. The memory of those who lost their lives in the line of duty during the years of independence will be honored, and their families will be provided with both material and moral support.

Spiritual, educational, and patriotic events are planned, aimed at honoring the courage and bravery of military personnel who gave their lives for the peace and tranquility of the Motherland. Across the country, under the motto “Duty, Courage, Resilience!”, cultural and educational events, meetings of three generations, creative evenings, contests, and mass sports competitions will be organized.

Additional measures aimed at elevating the training system for reserve and retired officers to a new level were considered. As noted, analysis of ongoing military conflicts shows that, taking into account wartime mobilization needs, one of the urgent tasks is to form a well-trained officer reserve in peacetime and ensure its effective distribution across military specialties.

Currently, reserve and retired officers are trained in 42 specialties at military training centers and faculties within four civilian and two higher military educational institutions. In addition, it has been proposed to establish five more military training centers at Urgench, Termez, and Andijan State Universities, the Samarkand Institute of Economics and Service, and the Andijan State Medical Institute.

Furthermore, a system for training reserve and retired officers will be introduced in state higher education institutions, based on a three-year bachelor’s degree program in “Pre-Conscription Military Education.” For the first time, the Military Medical Institute will offer military training on a fee-paying basis to students enrolled in clinical residency and master’s programs who wish to undergo such training. This opportunity will also be extended to students of non-state higher education institutions.

Training for reserve officers will also be introduced in modern, highly specialized fields that are in high demand today, such as artificial intelligence, drones, and robotics. New curricula and programs will be developed for military training units based on the experience of advanced foreign armies.

Special attention was paid to the social protection of military personnel. At a Security Council meeting held on January 13 under the chairmanship of the President, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, this issue was identified as a priority.

In particular, it was proposed to double the monthly long-service bonus for Ministry of Defense officers and to increase the pay of contract-based privates and sergeants by 10 percent.

The President supported the proposals, emphasizing that their implementation will further strengthen the social protection of military personnel and their families, as well as enhance the prestige and attractiveness of military service. Following this, the relevant acts were signed.
