Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan Ismatulla Irgashev met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Republic of Uzbekistan (with residence in Astana) Nico Schemers.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the prospects for relations between Uzbekistan and the Netherlands in the Afghan direction.

The high-ranking Dutch diplomat emphasized the significant role of Uzbekistan in establishing sustainable peace in Afghanistan, Tashkent's efforts to restore the country's socio-economic infrastructure.

Another meeting was held with Nazif Shahrani, Professor of the Department of Anthropology and of Central Asian and Middle Eastern Studies at Indiana University (USA).

The parties exchanged views and assessments on the development of the situation in Afghanistan, as well as ways to establish stability in this country.

N. Shahrani noted that Afghans living outside their homeland highly appreciate the active participation of Uzbekistan in providing humanitarian aid to the Afghan people and in establishing stability in Afghanistan in general.
