About the District
Baliqchi District was established on December 24, 1962, and is an administrative-territorial unit of Andijan Region.
The total area of Baliqchi District is 0.34 thousand square kilometers. According to its administrative-territorial structure, the district consists of 44 rural settlements and 66 mahalla citizens’ assemblies. Baliqchi District borders Namangan Region (79 km), Ulugnor District (20 km), Bo‘ston District (1.8 km), Oltinko‘l District (36.2 km), Izboskan District (18.5 km), and Shahrixon District (20 km).
Population
There are 53.4 thousand families in Baliqchi District. As of January 1, 2023, the population of the district составляет 6.4% of the permanent population of the region (3,322.7 thousand people), or 211.3 thousand people. Of these, 70.7 thousand people live in urban areas and 140.6 thousand people live in rural areas. The population density is 621 people per square kilometer.
The population is mainly Uzbek; Russians, Tatars, Tajiks, Uyghurs, and representatives of other nationalities also live in the district. There are 416 people per 1 square kilometer.
Nature
The territory of the district mainly consists of plains. The average temperature in January is −4°C, and in July it is 26°C. The average annual precipitation is 195–210 mm. The vegetation period lasts 235 days. The Karadarya River, Mazgilsoy, Chinobodsoy streams, and the Great Andijan Canal pass through the district. The soils are meadow-gray, slightly saline.
Vegetation includes saltwort, wormwood, dandelion, reed, mingdevona, camelthorn, couch grass, tamarisk, whiteweed, sorrel, horsetail, gumay grass, bindweed, and mint. Wildlife includes lizards, turtles, foxes, hares, snakes, and birds such as storks, ducks, sparrows, larks, crows, and pigeons.
