On November 22, Laziz Kudratov, Minister of Investment, Industry, and Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan, held discussions with Tamer Fathi Abdussalam Hammad, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Arab Republic of Egypt.
The meeting focused on evaluating the current state of trade and economic relations between Uzbekistan and Egypt, identifying measures to boost trade volumes, and addressing other pressing issues on the bilateral agenda.
Bilateral cooperation between the two nations continues to grow steadily. In 2023, Uzbekistan’s exports to Egypt surged by 110%, driven by increased deliveries of textiles, pharmaceuticals, electrical equipment, agricultural products, and services.
Collaborative efforts are also underway with Egyptian companies on various projects, including food production, geological exploration, and the development of drinking water supply systems. Presently, 15 enterprises with Egyptian capital are operating in Uzbekistan.
The discussions culminated in an agreement to host roundtable meetings involving business representatives from both countries. These discussions aim to strengthen collaboration in key sectors such as the digital economy, textiles, transportation and logistics, pharmaceuticals, engineering, mining, and phytosanitary standards. The parties also agreed to convene a session of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission in the near future.
