International Astronautical Congress may be held in Uzbekistan in 2028!
The International Astronautical Congress (IAC), one of the largest international forums in the global space sphere, annually brings together about 10,000 space industry leaders from around the world, representatives of leading companies and agencies conducting scientific research in this field on a single networking platform.
In 2023, this prestigious event was held in the Republic of Azerbaijan, and in 2024, the congress was held in Milan, Italy. This year, Australia will host it from September 29 to October 3.
An important aspect of this global scientific and technological international conference is that it simultaneously attracts promising investors to the host country. It is for this purpose that representatives of Uzcosmos put forward the candidacy of Uzbekistan, proposing to hold IAC-2028 in Samarkand.
This will attract foreign companies and agencies to build research centers, incubators and technology parks in the country, interest them in participating in joint research, and will also create an opportunity to showcase new startups.
For reference: in recent years, the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) has been held in cities such as Milan (2024), Baku (2023), Paris (2022), Dubai (2021), Washington (2019), Bremen (2018) and Adelaide (2017), and has yielded significant results for these countries. In particular, IAC-2021 was a key factor in the activation of the national space program in the United Arab Emirates, in particular, the launch of the Hope mission to Mars and the creation of the National Space Science Center. IAC-2022 in Paris was the largest congress in history, strengthening France's position as a leading state in the global space industry and promoting the active participation of the private sector. The Australian Space Agency was created after IAC-2017. In Germany and the United States, the congress contributed to strengthening international cooperation and the broad involvement of startups in the global space economy.
Holding an international astronautical congress is not only a demonstration of scientific potential, but also a strategic opportunity to attract investment, technology and international cooperation.
In order to get acquainted with the possibilities of holding this prestigious event in Uzbekistan, the Executive Director of the International Astronautical Federation Christian Feichtinger visited Samarkand and Tashkent, got acquainted with the level of readiness for holding the congress, the material and technical base, transport and hotel infrastructure, security, areas for organizing social events, and held meetings with officials from ministries and departments.
It should be noted that the Decree of the President "On measures to introduce aerospace technologies in economic sectors in 2024 - 2026" serves as the legal basis for these initiatives and efforts undertaken by the Uzcosmos Agency.
