As is known, today the problem of ensuring environmental sustainability and environmental protection is becoming one of the most important facing all countries. This is due to the fact that the global damage from offenses and crimes in this area is estimated at approximately 200 billion US dollars annually. This is dangerous due to the loss of ecological biodiversity, negative impact on human health, economic damage and acceleration of climate change. In our country, on the personal initiative of the Head of State, this environmental problem has been raised to the level of state policy. In particular, important tasks have been set to combat environmental pollution, deforestation, illegal hunting, poaching, illegal mining, illegal trade in wild animals and plants, as well as corruption in this area.
Taking these aspects into account, a Memorandum of Cooperation on ensuring environmental safety in the republic, combating offenses, introducing aerospace technologies into control measures, pre-investigation checks and inquiries, and using transparent and highly accurate data through the State Space Monitoring System was signed between the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Uzcosmos Agency.
In accordance with it, it was decided that the parties will now establish a systematic exchange of information, cooperate in a number of areas to determine the level of environmental risks and problems, identify violations and prevent them. In particular,
– control over the reduction of green space and felling of trees;
– detection of cases of unauthorized seizure of land on forest fund lands, illegal construction of buildings and structures;
– control over illegal earthworks, including waste extraction in river beds and water protection zones;
– control over deviations from the project and illegal extraction of minerals in areas where work is being carried out to clear river beds of accumulated waste and strengthen the banks;
– conducting aerospace surveys to determine the actual volumes of extracted minerals;
– control over cases of deviation from the established size at existing waste storage facilities, unauthorized waste dumps;
– control over cases of burning straw and its remains (sticks) on land cleared of grain crops (after harvesting).
In a word, this mutually beneficial cooperation will contribute to further strengthening of environmental culture, a sense of responsibility for nature and resource conservation, as well as increasing the effectiveness of control.
