In order to use space technologies for the further development of the economy of Uzbekistan and study the best foreign practices in this area, the Uzcosmos delegation visited several regions of the United States and took part in the international conference "Space Symposium".
In particular, their first destination was the state of California. During the study, the experience of determining the volume of water consumption based on satellite data for the efficient use of agricultural land was studied. In particular, visits were made to the Madera Groundwater Sustainability Agency, Reclamation District 108 and Oakdale Irrigation District, and meetings were held with representatives of Davids Engineering and Land IQ. As noted, in the United States, restrictions on water consumption and fines for farmers are introduced to prevent excessive use of groundwater.
Also, as part of the visit, Uzcosmos representatives visited the headquarters of the world leader Esri, which has been the world's largest developer of software for geographic information systems since 1969. During the negotiations, new stages of cooperation were discussed, proposals for exchanging experience and conducting regular training were considered. In addition, ideas were put forward to open an office or Esri technology center in Uzbekistan, as well as to create a regional division as a resident of IT Park Uzbekistan. It is important to note that Esri representatives highly appreciated the projects implemented by Uzcosmos in the field of space monitoring.
Another of the most important meetings of the trip to the United States was a visit to the Los Angeles office of SpaceX, one of the leaders of the modern space market. At the meeting, the launch of a scientific and technological satellite on a SpaceX rocket was discussed, the assembly of which is planned to be carried out by young Uzbek engineers during their studies at the Kyushu Institute of Technology (Japan).
At the same time, an exchange of views took place on the strategy of Uzbekistan "Space Research and Technology - 2035", and representatives of SpaceX expressed their readiness to consider the initial draft of the document and provide their opinions and comments on its further improvement after it is ready. In addition, the delegation members got acquainted with the production processes and capabilities of the Falcon 9 launch vehicle from SpaceX.
In addition, Uzcosmos representatives took part in the international conference "Space Symposium", which was held in Colorado Springs, USA. The event was attended by more than 10,000 people from more than 40 countries. It is important to note that through this communication platform, extensive negotiations were held with companies working in the field of space technologies from different countries. In particular, a preliminary exchange of views took place with companies manufacturing space industry products on the issue of transferring part of their capacities to Uzbekistan. Existing approaches, technologies and opportunities for cooperation in the design, development, testing and commercialization of satellite propulsion systems developed by Uzcosmos specialists were also discussed.
Within the framework of the international conference "Space Symposium", Uzcosmos representatives held a number of productive meetings and reached useful agreements.
In particular, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Uzcosmos Agency and the Korea Aerospace Administration (KASA). According to the document, cooperation will be carried out in such areas as space education, science and research, application of space technologies, development of satellites, creation and development of ground-based space infrastructure.
In addition, a bilateral agreement was reached on consultative cooperation with the French consulting company Novaspace on the implementation of the strategy of Uzbekistan "Space Research and Technology - 2035".
The main focus will be on studying the priority areas, methodological approaches and international experience defined within the framework of the strategy, familiarization with the space ecosystem of developing countries, advanced experience of free economic zones (FEZ) in the space sector, models for attracting technological investment, entering foreign markets, and developing international cooperation.
Consultations were held with the Executive Director of the International Astronautical Federation on the issue of holding IAC-2028 in Uzbekistan. It is worth noting that this global forum annually brings together over 10,000 participants from more than 100 countries, including space agencies and international organizations, heads of scientific and educational centers, and representatives of the global space community.
The trip of UzCosmos representatives to the United States was fruitful and eventful. Of course, such partnership is important, first of all, for the further development of the domestic market of space research and technology, the launch of new projects and programs.
