Today, the Uzbekcosmos Agency is actively working in a number of areas, including further developing the field of space research, identifying problems in economic sectors through the introduction of aerospace technologies in the regions, and increasing the efficiency of their management.
In particular, the main attention in this regard is paid to establishing cooperation with ministries and departments, as well as local khokimiyats. For this purpose, representatives of the agency are holding traveling meetings in the regions.
During the conversation with the Chairman of the Jokargi Kenes of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, the issues of solving urgent problems of the region using modern space technologies were discussed, including the activation of satellite observations in Karakalpakstan within the framework of the State Space Monitoring Program, and the effective use of space images in such areas as ecology, geology, agriculture and water management, and land relations.
The importance of this meeting can be seen in several strategic areas.
1. Accurate assessment of the ecological situation:
Karakalpakstan is one of the most sensitive regions of Uzbekistan in terms of environmental problems. As a result of the drying up of the Aral Sea, it is necessary to constantly monitor processes such as soil salinization, reduction of vegetation cover and air pollution. In this, the role of satellite images is important. That is, the real pace of desertification, the state of forest and green areas, and ecological hazard zones are accurately mapped. This allows the government to take prompt environmental measures in accordance with the real situation.
2. Increasing productivity in agriculture and reducing water shortages:
Agriculture, one of the main economic areas of Karakalpakstan, is largely dependent on water. Through the State Space Monitoring System of the Uzbekcosmos Agency, issues such as the state of crop vegetation, water distribution efficiency, yield forecasting, and combating illegal fires in the fields are analyzed based on accurate data.
3. Ensuring transparency and order in land relations:
One of the important issues discussed at the meeting was the control of the targeted use of land and illegal development in the region. Space observations will allow us to quickly determine the actual condition of land areas, the level of use of agricultural land, illegal construction or looting.
4. Early detection of geological hazards:
Monitoring landslides, salinity levels, and groundwater movement in the region is of great importance in the field of geology. Satellites will make it possible to observe the dynamics of geological processes, prevent natural hazards, and properly plan infrastructure projects.
5. Personnel training is the key to sustainable activity
Another of the main issues discussed at the meeting was the retraining of personnel. The reason is that the effective use of space images requires the presence of qualified specialists in regional offices. This will allow for the rapid introduction of new technologies, improve the quality of data analysis, and accelerate the integration of geoinformation systems.
Also, during the meeting, the essence of the Presidential Decree of September 26, 2026 “On additional measures to expand the use of aerospace data in economic sectors and improve the management system in the lower tier of agriculture” was explained, and the implementation of the tasks set forth therein was discussed.
