The Uzbekcosmos Agency and STAR.VISION signed a memorandum naming the hyperspectral satellite being developed in China "Samarqand-2028." This name was chosen deliberately: it will symbolize the preparation and holding of the International Astronautical Congress in 2028 in the ancient city of Samarkand—the world's largest space forum, which will be held in Central Asia for the first time.
According to the memorandum, the artificial intelligence module for this Earth remote sensing satellite will be developed by Uzbekcosmos specialists. Hyperspectral imagery will enable rapid assessment of atmospheric air quality, monitoring crop health, tracking forest dynamics, and providing highly accurate analytical information for various industries.
