Discussions Held on Including Kokand’s Historic Sites in the UNESCO World Heritage List

During a meeting between the Mayor of Kokand, representatives of an auditing company working in cooperation with UNESCO, and experts from France’s leading architecture and design institutions, the parties discussed plans to restore Kokand’s historic urban landscape, including its ancient neighborhoods, streets, and the architectural heritage of Kokandsoy. They also reviewed the prospects of nominating Kokand for inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Following negotiations held in line with the instructions given by the President during his visit to Kokand, UNESCO experts carried out a 15-day study of the city. The next stage will be the preparation of a comprehensive master plan aimed at restoring Kokand’s historic appearance.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to continue cooperation and to resume discussions in September based on the completed master plan for the restoration of the city’s historical heritage.
