At the plenary session of the Senate, the Law “On state pension provision for military servicemen (employees) and members of their families” was discussed.
In recent years, large-scale reforms have been implemented in our country aimed at providing social support to military servicemen and employees of law enforcement agencies, protecting their rights and legitimate interests, and providing appropriate incentives for their service. The Law represents a logical continuation of these reforms and is designed to comprehensively regulate the state pension provision of military servicemen and their family members on the basis of national legislation.
As noted during the discussion, until now, relations in this area have been regulated mainly on the basis of legal acts adopted during the former Soviet Union and certain international agreements. The new Law provides a legal framework for these relations in accordance with the Constitution and national legislation of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
For the first time, a single law establishes the categories of persons entitled to state pension provision, as well as the conditions for granting pensions based on years of service, disability pensions, and survivor’s pensions, along with the procedures for their calculation, recalculation, and payment.
The Law also introduces important measures aimed at providing social incentives for military servicemen who have served honorably for many years. In particular, the maximum pension amount for persons with more than 30 years of service calculated on a calendar basis is being increased from 75 percent to 100 percent.
Importantly, these social guarantees will apply not only to military servicemen who retire in the future, but also to military servicemen, employees, and their family members who are currently receiving pensions and have more than 30 years of service calculated on a calendar basis.
The Law places particular emphasis on the social protection of families of those who have served in defense of the Motherland. In particular, the legal grounds for granting survivor’s pensions are being improved. Guarantees of state pension provision for family members are being strengthened in cases where a military serviceman dies while performing military service or dies as a result of an injury or illness sustained during service.
As emphasized, the Law will contribute to further strengthening the social protection of military servicemen and employees of law enforcement agencies, ensuring due recognition of their service, and reliably protecting the rights and interests of their family members.
Following the discussion, the senators approved the Law.
