On 17 March 2025, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Olimjon Abdullayev met with a delegation from the Republic of Korea headed by the Mayor of Ulsan, Kim Doo-gyeom.
The discussion focused on expanding cooperation in human resource development and attracting labor resources from Uzbekistan to major industrial facilities in Ulsan.
Kim Doo-gyeom stated that, for the first time in Korea’s history, mechanisms are being introduced to simplify the issuance of work visas for Uzbek citizens through the city hall.
Specifically, Ulsan City Hall is implementing a number of incentives for Uzbek citizens. Upon completing a three-month vocational training and language program, graduates will be granted a work visa and employed. This mechanism is being introduced as a pilot project for the first time. The Korean mayor noted that if the project proves successful, other cities may also adopt a similar approach for Uzbek citizens.
The Korean side expressed its readiness to consider Uzbekistan’s request for the organized employment of Uzbek citizens and their families at enterprises in Ulsan, provided they do not transition into illegal status.
Several agreements were reached on cooperation in attracting Uzbek citizens to work in Korea’s industrial and other economic sectors.
