Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea discuss Development of Consular Cooperation and Expansion of Opportunities for Citizens’ Mobility

On August 3, 2026, the fourth round of consular consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea was held.
The delegations were headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Olimjon Abdullaev and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea Lim Sang Woo.
During the consultations, the parties held a comprehensive exchange of views on the current state and future prospects of bilateral cooperation in the consular field, as well as on issues related to organized labor migration.
Particular attention was paid to the protection of the rights and legitimate interests of the citizens of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea in the territories of both countries, strengthening cooperation between the competent authorities, and enhancing the efficiency of consular and legal assistance.
A separate focus of the consultations was cooperation on mobility and migration. The parties discussed ways to improve mechanisms for organized and safe labor mobility, expand legal migration pathways, undertake joint measures aimed at reducing irregular migration, and ensure appropriate living and working conditions, including occupational safety, for citizens engaged in employment in the Republic of Korea.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue regular dialogue and practical cooperation between the consular services of the two countries, expand the bilateral legal framework in this area, and intensify the frequency of the consular consultation mechanism.
