Five students from Uzbekistan may undertake an eight-week research internship at Kyoto University laboratories in 2027

A meeting was held between representatives of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of the Republic of Uzbekistan and a delegation from Kyoto University. The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister and Director of the Agency for Innovative Development Uktam Salomov and Vice President of Kyoto University Fuyuki Ishikawa.The meeting focused on further developing cooperation between Uzbekistan and Japan in the fields of education, science and innovation, expanding international scientific ties, and creating new opportunities for young researchers.
Representatives of Kyoto University provided information on the university’s research capacity, experience in international cooperation, as well as the KU-STAR research programme. Under this programme, five high-potential students from Uzbekistan are planned to be selected in 2027 to undertake an eight-week research internship in laboratories at Kyoto University.
The parties exchanged views on the selection criteria for programme participants, matching students with relevant research laboratories, funding mechanisms, and matters related to the organisation of the internship.
Following the meeting, the parties noted that the KU-STAR programme could serve as an important platform for expanding practical scientific cooperation between Uzbekistan and Kyoto University, helping talented young people gain experience in an international research environment, and developing new joint initiatives.
Going forward, the parties plan to continue cooperation in this area, expand international research opportunities for young scientists and researchers, and strengthen practical efforts to develop new areas of cooperation.
