A Local Innovative Solution Against Termites: the “OKS” Biopesticide Is Being Produced

A project that once started with grant support has now grown into an enterprise producing a marketable product, reaching sales of 800 million soums and creating new jobs.
Termites can cause serious damage not only to residential homes but also to historical monuments and cultural heritage sites. Therefore, developing effective, environmentally safe, and locally produced solutions to combat them is of great importance.
In this regard, an innovative project supported in 2021 is now demonstrating its practical results. Within the framework of the startup project “Establishment of a Research and Production Enterprise for the Production of Biological Pesticides”, funded by the Agency for Innovative Development with 441.9 million soums, the operations of “Barkhan biotech” LLC were launched in Urgench District.
As part of the project, the “OKS” biopesticide, designed to combat termites, is being produced. Local raw materials are used in the production of this product developed by the project authors. The biopesticide helps protect residential homes, historical monuments, and cultural heritage sites from termites. The product is currently being supplied to various regions of the country.
The project’s current results clearly demonstrate the practical effectiveness of grant funding. The enterprise has created 9 new jobs and established production capacity for 2,880 liters of biological pesticide per year. Most importantly, to date, the total sales volume of products manufactured under the project has reached nearly 800 million soums.
Considering in particular that the project was funded in 2021, its current results demonstrate that grant funding is not merely a one-time financial support measure, but a mechanism for transforming a scientific idea into a product and the product into income-generating production.
Most importantly, this project provides a clear example of how the science — innovation — production — market chain is taking shape in practice. An idea that was supported through a grant yesterday has today become an enterprise producing a marketable product, establishing its position in the market, and creating new jobs.
