A new road overpass connecting two sections of Babur Street in Andijan, as well as a pedestrian bridge near the “Yangi Bozor Dehqon Bozori” market, have been commissioned. These infrastructure projects have created additional convenience for residents and improved traffic and pedestrian movement in the area.
The road bridge was constructed to reduce traffic congestion, connect central parts of the city, shorten detour distances, and create more convenient conditions for residents.
The total length of the bridge is 796 meters, including a 596-meter elevated section and 200 meters of retaining walls. The bridge is 25.9 meters wide.
The bridge was constructed by “Ko‘prikqurilish” JSC as part of a project with a total value of 271 billion soums. Following its commissioning, the time required to travel from one section of Babur Street to the other has been reduced by 17 minutes.
“I live in the Yangi Bozor area of Babur Street,” said local resident Zohidjon Homidov. “Previously, it took me 30–35 minutes to reach my workplace located in the other part of the street. During periods of heavy traffic, the journey could take up to 50 minutes. Since the new bridge was opened, it takes me about 15 minutes to get to work. Most importantly, the traffic congestion has been significantly reduced. The new bridge has not only shortened travel times but has also contributed to the modern appearance of our city.”
The Yangi Bozor area is one of the busiest locations in Andijan. It is frequently used by visitors to the market, as well as public transport operating between Andijan and the Asaka, Marhamat, Shahrihan and Bo‘ston districts. Many residents arriving from the districts use this pedestrian crossing to reach different parts of the city.
As a result, the area had regularly experienced significant congestion involving both pedestrians and vehicles.
To address this issue, a modern pedestrian bridge has been constructed. The facility is equipped with escalators for access and descent, as well as an elevator for people with disabilities. This has created safer and more convenient conditions for both pedestrians and vehicles.
“I live in Asaka district and travel to Andijan State University every day for work,” said Khurshidakhon A’zamova, a lecturer at Andijan State University. “Previously, crossing this area was difficult for many people, including myself. Now, with the new pedestrian bridge, we can cross safely and comfortably. Such projects demonstrate the attention being given to creating better conditions for the population.”
Overall, these infrastructure and development projects are contributing to improved urban mobility, enhanced road and pedestrian safety, reduced travel times and a more comfortable urban environment for residents and visitors to Andijan.
