Khokimiyat of Tashkent city

" On the status and structure of the capital of the Republic of Uzbekistan-Tashkent», proposal of Tashkent city Kengash on organization of Tashkent city Khokimiyat and introduction of a post of Khokim of Tashkent city was approved.
Tashkent city Khokimiyat was established in the extraordinary 8th conventional Session of Tashkent city Kengash (January 11, 1992 ) on the basis of the Executive Body of the Supreme Council. Tashkent city Khokimiyat and "local self-government" work in accordance with the law. In accordance with the legal instruments, the City Khokimiyat manages construction, approves economic and socio-cultural development plans and local budget, directs subordinate enterprises, organizations and institutions, ensures compliance with the laws of the citizens. Leadership of Khokimiyat, its divisions, units, properties, structure, activity shall be determined by the Regulation, approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The structure of the executive power of the city of Tashkent and the number of employees within the budget, approved by Kengash (Council of people's deputies) shall be established and changed by the Khokim.
The Khokim of Tashkent is the Chief executive officer in the city and at the same time he manages representative and executive branches of Government. Khokim (Mayor) is subordinated to the President and the Council of people's deputies of the city. Khokim (Mayor) is appointed by the President of Uzbekistan, he is released from office and approved by the City Kengash of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The term of office of the Khokim is 5 years.
