The parties exchanged views on the further expansion of ties between the two countries in the field of higher education and science, as well as on the further increase in the number of Chinese scholarships for the youth of Uzbekistan wishing to study at Chinese universities.
“The main tasks of the Scholarship Council of the Ministry of Education of China include not only the allocating scholarships to foreign students, including Uzbek students, but also financial support for Chinese students wishing to study abroad. Therefore, we are interested in ensuring that Chinese youth can become acquainted with the advanced achievements of higher education in Uzbekistan and participate in various exchange programs.
Based on this, we want to work on the issue of providing scholarships to Chinese students to study at higher educational institutions in Uzbekistan.
The visit of representatives of leading Chinese universities to Uzbekistan to participate in the exhibition of Chinese universities will serve the further expansion of ties between the universities of the two countries, noted Dr. Lulu Tian.
The number of young citizens from Uzbekistan studying at universities in China is increasing year by year. In addition, the total student population learning Chinese has increased in our republic. For example, Chinese is taught in 5 public universities of the republic: Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies, Uzbek State University of World Languages, Samarkand State Institute of Foreign Languages, University of World Economy and Diplomacy, Tashkent State University of Economics. In general, more than 2,000 students learn Chinese in higher educational institutions of Uzbekistan.
Also, hundreds of our citizens learn Chinese at Confucius Institutes, which have been operating in Tashkent since 2004 and in Samarkand since 2013.
Taking this into account, Deputy Minister Sh. Turdikulova proposed to the Chinese side to explore the possibility of further increasing the number of scholarships for Uzbek applicants for the next academic years to study in China.
“Given the needs of the current stage of socio-economic development of our republic, it is especially important for us to increase the opportunities for studying abroad in the master’s and doctoral level (PhD) programs,” said the deputy minister.
The Chinese side confirmed its readiness to positively consider this proposal.
