The meeting also included representatives from AFD, Proparco, and Expertise France, as well as leading experts and entrepreneurs.
During the conversation, both parties discussed their achievements and explored new opportunities for joint economic development. They summarized the results of bilateral cooperation aimed at supporting reforms, implementing infrastructure projects, and advancing the green economy. The AFD continues to play a crucial role in enhancing living standards, addressing environmental and social challenges, and supporting Uzbekistan's private sector.
Experts have observed a strengthening of trade and investment ties between Uzbekistan and the European Union in recent years. In 2024, trade turnover with the EU reached $6.4 billion, reflecting a 5.2 percent increase. A key factor in this success has been the country's effective utilization of its status under the EU's GSP+ program, which provides access to the European market for over 6,200 Uzbek products. Consequently, Uzbek goods are successfully entering the EU market, contributing to the diversification of exports and enhancing the presence of domestic producers abroad.
At present, over 1,000 European companies are operating in Uzbekistan, executing investment projects valued at more than €30 billion. The expertise of French companies can serve as an additional catalyst for economic growth, particularly through the development of sector-specific strategies, support for regional development programs, and reforms designed to strengthen the private sector.
At the same time, the parties have identified several key areas for further collaboration, including the development of regional cooperation, the attraction of additional financial resources, and cooperation in the field of critical raw materials.
To support these areas, Uzbekistan has enacted legislation regarding mineral extraction, developed in collaboration with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. This legislation adheres to international standards and will create favorable conditions for attracting investment in the country's mining sector.
At the conclusion of the event, participants expressed confidence in further strengthening cooperation between Uzbekistan and the French Development Agency. They also highlighted new opportunities for European companies in Uzbekistan, a nation striving to become a leading center for investment, innovation, and sustainable economic growth.
