During the negotiations, key environmental initiatives and migration issues in the context of climate change were discussed.
One of the main topics of the meeting was the discussion of the initiative to adopt the "Silk Road Declaration" on human mobility in the context of climate change. The document is proposed to be approved during the First Samarkand Climate Conference, which will be held on April 4-5, 2025, in Samarkand.
To further deepen cooperation, the Minister suggested studying migration issues in mountainous areas in the context of climate change, conducting joint research and contributing to the Concept on Regional Green Development, which is planned to be presented at the Climate Conference in Samarkand.
At the end of the meeting, the parties signed the Plan of Action for the implementation of the joint project "Supporting the implementation of the National Adaptation Plan and Assessing the impacts of climate change-induced RISING Temperatures and heatwaves on the health of migrants."
The main areas of the project, which will be implemented from February 2025 to May 2026, include:
— Conducting bilateral briefings on migration, ecology, and climate change;
— Mapping and analyzing national laws, regulations, strategies, and plans of Uzbekistan;
— Developing recommendations on the impact of temperature increases and heatwaves on the health of migrants and their families;
— Other activities aimed at mitigating the consequences of climate change.
The meeting was an important step towards strengthening international cooperation and developing effective mechanisms to address the environmental and migration challenges caused by climate change.
