Uzbekistan signs memorandum of cooperation with leading international conservation organization

The negotiations took place as part of a high-level event promoting the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS), held in Berlin, Germany.
During the meeting with the head of one of the oldest and most respected environmental organizations, agreements were reached on cooperation within the framework of international conservation agreements. NABU will provide expert support to Uzbekistan in fulfilling its commitments in this area. The issues of increasing saiga numbers in Kazakhstan and improving conservation programmes in Uzbekistan were also discussed.
The parties also expressed their readiness to jointly develop documents, initiatives and activities ahead of the 20th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the CITES Convention, which will be held in Samarkand in November-December this year.
The meeting concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union (NABU). The document aims to enhance joint efforts in protecting endangered species and their habitats, as well as promoting the sustainable management of natural resources.
Key Areas of Cooperation Under the Memorandum:
• Supporting projects for the protection of endangered wildlife habitats and the creation of protected natural areas.
• Assisting Uzbekistan in fulfilling international environmental commitments, including cooperation with IUCN and other multilateral organizations.
• Implementing training programs for environmental professionals in areas such as species monitoring, conservation and environmental education.
• Supporting young scientists and specialists from Uzbekistan through internships and training at leading German conservation institutes.
• Supporting anti-poaching initiatives and wildlife population monitoring programs.
• Developing projects for the conservation of migratory birds and their habitats.
The signing of this Memorandum of Cooperation marks an important step toward strengthening nature conservation and biodiversity protection, while also contributing to the development of a more sustainable environmental policy in the region.
