The meeting focused on further developing cooperation between the two countries in higher education and science, strengthening ties between universities, and enriching existing agreements with practical projects.
Currently, 28 higher education institutions in Uzbekistan cooperate with nearly 40 universities and scientific and educational organizations in Poland under more than 70 agreements and memorandums. These ties are also developing through international education programmes such as Erasmus+.
While discussing the current state and prospects of cooperation, the parties highlighted the importance of the results achieved at university rectors’ forums held in previous years. In particular, 24 bilateral documents were signed during a roundtable of university rectors held in Warsaw in July 2024. At the second Rectors’ Forum in April 2025, 17 Uzbek and 20 Polish universities participated, resulting in 37 cooperation agreements.
The Congress of European Union and Central Asian Universities, held in Samarkand in April this year, also provided an important platform for developing relations between the two countries. During the event, Uzbekistan and Poland signed a document expressing their intentions to develop cooperation in higher education and science.
The meeting identified priority areas for making effective use of existing potential and taking cooperation to a new level. Particular attention was given to expanding joint educational programmes in engineering, information technology, agriculture, medicine and economics; developing dual-degree programmes; and aligning curricula.
The parties also exchanged views on expanding student and academic staff exchanges, strengthening information exchange on Polish government scholarship programmes, and increasing opportunities for Uzbek young people and researchers to pursue studies and undertake research internships.
Other key priorities included developing scientific cooperation, expanding the participation of universities and research organizations in international programmes such as Erasmus+ and Horizon Europe, implementing joint research projects, and establishing research internships for academic staff.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties emphasized the importance of continuing efforts to implement agreements previously reached between universities, developing concrete action plans for areas of cooperation, and improving the practical outcomes of joint initiatives.
The development of cooperation between Uzbekistan and Poland in education and science will help strengthen ties between universities in the two countries, create new educational opportunities for young people, and improve the effectiveness of scientific research.
