Fergana and Nonsan Identify New Areas of Cooperation — from Agrotechnologies to Innovation

The meeting focused on strengthening economic ties between the two regions, making effective use of existing expertise, and establishing cooperation based on concrete projects.

The Governor of Fergana Region highlighted the dynamic development of relations between Uzbekistan and the Republic of Korea. It was noted that President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s state visit to the Republic of Korea, currently underway, will further strengthen the special strategic partnership between the two countries and elevate bilateral cooperation to a qualitatively new level.

Nonsan is one of the Korean cities where agriculture and industry are being developed in close integration with modern technologies. The city is particularly renowned nationwide for strawberry cultivation. Its approach goes beyond agricultural production itself, encompassing the introduction of advanced agrotechnologies, processing, value-added production, and bringing finished products to market.

In 2027, the city will host the Nonsan World Strawberry Industry Expo. During the meeting, it was noted that Nonsan’s experience is also of considerable interest to Fergana Region.

The parties discussed opportunities to combine Fergana Region’s agricultural potential with Nonsan’s agrotechnological solutions, expand the deep processing of fruit and vegetable products, and introduce modern greenhouse and intensive cultivation technologies.

In particular, a proposal was put forward to establish a modern plant nursery and intensive cultivation center in Fergana Region based on Nonsan’s advanced expertise in strawberry production.

The parties also exchanged views on arranging short-term internships in Nonsan for young specialists from Fergana, inviting Korean experts to Fergana Region, and launching joint programs between universities and research centers.

Another important feature of Nonsan’s development model is its approach to integrating the economy, agriculture, and tourism into a single development chain. The city’s new economic strategy also places particular emphasis on the defense industry, artificial intelligence, and research and development — R&D.

Khayrullo Bozorov provided information on the favorable conditions created for investors in Fergana Region, ongoing industrial and agricultural projects, and efforts to attract and introduce modern technologies.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties emphasized the importance of expanding direct contacts between businesses and specialized organizations in Fergana and Nonsan, organizing mutual visits, and transforming promising initiatives into concrete practical projects.

The parties agreed to develop a “roadmap” and further advance practical cooperation.
