At the initiative of Uzbekistan, the UN General Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution declaring April 29 as the International Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Earthquakes.
The document was co-sponsored by more than 80 countries from all regions of the world.
The resolution is based on the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan to establish a Day of Remembrance and Solidarity to pay tribute to the victims of the earthquake and remind them of the need for international cooperation in this regard.
At the extraordinary summit of the Organization of Turkic States on March 16, 2023, the head of our state paid special attention to the need to strengthen practical cooperation with international structures specializing in emergency situations.
International Earthquake Remembrance Day will be celebrated for the first time on April 29, 2026. This date was established in connection with the 60th anniversary of the devastating earthquake that occurred in Tashkent in 1966.
