Over the last seven years, several new cultural and art institutions have been established in the Republic of Karakalpakstan.
In particular, new 150-seat children's music and art schools were built in the districts of Muynak, Khujayli, Ellikqala, and Chimboy, along with a school-internship specializing in Opera and Bakhshi art in the city of Nukus.
In the districts of Muynak, Bozatuv, Chimboy, and Kongirot, an amphitheater building was constructed, and as part of an investment program, the Republic Library for the Blind was also newly built.
The new building construction of the Karakalpak State Youth Theater and Karakalpak State Puppet Theater has been completed and handed over to use.
Additionally, the Berdaq Karakalpak State Music Theater has been granted the status of an "Academic Theater."
To build, reconstruct, and restore cultural facilities, 15 cultural and art institutions were newly built, 10 were reconstructed, and 18 were majorly repaired and equipped between 2017-2024.
Currently, there are a total of 99 cultural institutions in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, including 3 state and 1 private theaters, 5 concert organizations, 60 cultural centers, 3 specialized cultural and art schools and schools-internships, 24 children's music and art schools, 2 higher education institutions, and 1 Republic Library for the Blind with 9 branches.
On January 23, a press tour was organized in order to communicate the activities of cultural institutions in the Republic of Karakalpakstan and the ongoing reforms to the public, with the participation of media.
First, a meeting took place at the Youth Center in the city of Nukus with the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Ozodbek Nazarbekov, and young people from Karakalpakstan. About 200 talented youths studying and working in the field of culture and art, state awardees, scholarship holders, and international contest winners attended.
The next stop on the press tour was the "Xalqabad" Cultural Center in Kegeyli district.
On December 22, 2023, in an expanded meeting of the Republic's Spirituality and Enlightenment Council chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, an instruction was given to establish a model cultural center with a stage hall, library, cinema hall, and club rooms in every district. This process is being gradually implemented across the regions.
The "Xalqabad" Cultural Center, built in 1963, had fallen into disrepair. The old building was demolished, and with an investment of 2 billion 700 million UZS, reconstruction works were carried out. It was rebuilt and handed over for use in 2024, equipped with modern facilities, more than 25 musical instruments, amplifiers, and educational materials.
This Cultural Center has a capacity of 168 seats, and 5 clubs (weaving, dance, guitar, puppet theater, and singing) are operational. Around 60 young people from the region are involved in these clubs.
Additionally, there is a small library and a cinema hall at the center.
The center currently provides cultural services to more than 35,000 people.
As of now, there are 837 cultural centers across Uzbekistan, including 60 in Karakalpakstan. These centers offer nearly 4,000 clubs, engaging over 48,000 young people.
During the visit to the "Xalqabad" Cultural Center, the visitors got familiar with the conditions and the "Yasha Xotin" comedy film, filmed by the state order, was shown to the local population.
The next stop was the 4th Children's Music and Art School in Khujayli district.
This school was founded in 1957 and, according to the state program for improving the operation of children's music and art schools (2016-2020), was reconstructed in 2019 with a budget of 4.95 billion UZS.
The school has a total capacity of 150 seats, and currently, over 180 students are studying there. It has a concert hall with 150 seats, a library, and 25 classrooms. The library contains more than 470 musical literature and sheet music.
Currently, the school has 32 teaching staff, including 14 with higher education, 7 with intermediate education, and 11 with incomplete higher education.
In the 2024-2025 academic year, the school offers training in 8 directions: piano, string instruments, folk instruments, Bakhshi-jirav, pop music, choreography, visual arts, and theater.
In addition, two students, Orinbayeva Erkinay and Qudaybergenova Gulshinar, received the Zulfiya State Award in 2022 and 2023, respectively.
The students also participate in numerous competitions and festivals, achieving excellent results.
The next stop was the construction site of the Nukus branch of the Uzbekistan State Conservatory.
In line with the decision of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated December 25, 2023, 27 billion UZS was allocated for the construction of a new 300-seat academic building and for capital repairs. The construction is expected to be completed by the second half of 2025.
As of today, the Ministry of Culture of Uzbekistan operates a total of 365 educational institutions, including 29 in Karakalpakstan. These include 3 specialized cultural and art schools, 24 children's music and art schools, 2 higher education institutions, and 5 centers for professional development, educating over 112,000 students and employing more than 18,000 faculty members.
At the end of the press tour, a concert program by the "Benom" group was held in Nukus at the "Do‘stlik Maydoni" as part of the "Yulduz Bilan Sayyohat" project.
As part of the efforts to enhance cultural services, a concert for over 5,000 spectators was held on January 23 at the "Mustaqillik Maydoni" in Nukus.
Additionally, two films, "Uch Qahramon" and "Yasha Xotin," were shown at the "Karakalpakstan Art Palace."
Minister of Culture Ozodbek Nazarbekov participated in several meetings and discussions during his visit to Karakalpakstan from January 22-23, 2025.
He met with the Chairman of the Karakalpakstan Supreme Council, Amanbay Tleubayevich Orinbayev, and held an expanded meeting of the Ministry of Culture's Board to review the results of 2024. He also attended a performance of the opera "Ajiniyoz" at the Berdaq Karakalpak State Academic Musical Theater and awarded the "Cultural and Art Devotee" medal to over 20 sector representatives.
