As you know, the “Days of Uzbek Culture” were held in the Russian Federation from November 18 to 20.
As part of these cultural days, a meeting took place with Vladimir Malyshev, the rector of the All-Russian State Institute of Cinematography (VGIK) named after S.A. Gerasimov, along with the institute's professors and teachers. Discussions were also held with Uzbek students currently studying at the institute.
The meeting was attended by Avazkhon Tadzhikhanov, First Deputy Minister of Culture of Uzbekistan, the head of the responsible department of the ministry, and Shukhrat Rizaev, Director of the Cinematography Agency under the Ministry of Culture of Uzbekistan.
During the meeting, plans for collaboration in the field of cinematography were discussed, which had been addressed at the IV meeting of the Subcommittee on Culture of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Uzbekistan. This meeting was chaired by Russia's Minister of Culture Olga Lyubimova and Uzbekistan's Minister of Culture Ozodbek Nazarbekov.
It is worth noting that Olga Lyubimova remarked: “The third meeting was held in May 2023 in Tashkent. During this time, several significant projects important to both countries were implemented. One of the key events was the signing of agreements on joint film production. This is crucial for our filmmakers, as it provides an opportunity to showcase national films on international platforms. In addition, we are exploring new formats of cooperation, such as participation in international festivals and the exchange of experience in film education. I am confident that such initiatives will not only strengthen ties between our countries but also enhance the quality of film production. Moreover, this will create new opportunities for young talents who wish to work on international projects and share experiences with colleagues from other countries.”
After the meeting, the delegation familiarized itself with the educational processes of Uzbek students studying at the institute and held conversations with them.
For reference: The institute was established in 1919 by director Vladimir Gardin as the Moscow Film School and is the first and oldest film school in the world.
