In his speech, the head of state emphasized that the launch of such large-scale projects on the eve of the Ramazan Hayit and Navruz holidays serves to strengthen the economy of New Uzbekistan and enhance the welfare of the people. The plant, valued at $2.7 billion, is a testament to the dedicated labor of our citizens.
Structural Reforms and Growth Rates in the Mining Industry
As a result of reforms implemented over the past nine years, the investment climate in the sector has improved significantly. A transparent system for allocating deposits has attracted $10 billion in foreign investment. Today, 65 private enterprises are successfully operating in the mining sector.
The production growth dynamics are reflected in the following figures:
-
Gold production: increased from 87 tons (prior to 2016) to 118.4 tons;
-
Silver: 1.6-fold increase;
-
Uranium: 2.1-fold increase;
-
Copper: 1.4-fold increase.
In total, production in the sector has grown 1.7 times, reaching 270 trillion UZS last year. Crucially, this industry has become a source of high-paying jobs: excavator operators earn up to 30 million UZS, heavy truck drivers up to 40 million UZS, and geologists and surveyors up to 70 million UZS.
3rd Copper Concentration Plant: Technological and Economic Efficiency
Once the plant reaches full capacity, the daily volume of copper concentrate at AMMC will increase from the current 2,400 tons to 5,000 tons. Under the project, more than 6,000 young people will be provided with stable, high-income jobs.
A unique feature of the complex is the integration of advanced technologies from the USA, Germany, Russia, China, and Finland. All technological processes are digitized and managed via an artificial intelligence-based system. This will result in:
-
10% reduction in energy consumption;
-
15% reduction in production costs;
-
10% increase in labor productivity.
Strategic Reserves and Future Plans
The President highlighted the potential of the "Yoshlik-1" and "Kalmakyr" deposits. These sites contain 45 million tons of copper and over 5,000 tons of gold reserves, providing a guaranteed raw material base for at least 100 years.
Furthermore, the commencement of a new $2.5 billion copper smelting plant was announced. Plans for a 4th Copper Concentration Plant are also underway. Upon completion of these projects, AMMC will become one of the three largest copper production complexes in the world.
By 2030, Uzbekistan aims to achieve the following production targets:
-
Copper: 500,000 tons;
-
Gold: 175 tons;
-
Silver: 500 tons;
-
Uranium: 15,000 tons.
