The meeting was attended by representatives of national authorities responsible for environmental protection, water resources, health, sanitation, mining and geology, industrial safety, emergency management, hydrometeorology and public health, as well as operators, representatives of academia and international partners. The meeting reviewed progress under the Industrial Accidents Convention and the Protocol on Water and Health, and agreed on further steps under the work plan for 2026.
At the meeting, national partners from various sectors gathered to discuss the main results of the recently completed baseline data analysis, which will serve as a guide for the development of new targets. As part of an inclusive multi-stakeholder process, participants focused on the draft targets being developed, including relevant indicators, deadlines, and responsibilities. This initiative in Uzbekistan is an important part of the ambitious work program for 2026-2028, adopted at the Meeting of the Parties to the Protocol on Water and Health, held in Budapest on November 5-7, 2025. These efforts are aimed at increasing the country's resilience to climate change and related challenges and, ultimately, ensuring equitable access to safe water and sanitation.
