Black-bellied sandgrouses of “South Ustyurt”

The staff of the “South Ustyurt”National Nature Park under the Ministry of Ecology, environmental protection and climate change captured on camera black-bellied sandgrouses.

These birds are found mainly in desert areas and steppes, inhabiting Central Asia and Kazakhstan. They are quite active and cautious. They often drink fresh and salt water from the Caspian and Aral seas. They feed on seeds, shoots and other parts of plants. They live on average 7 years.
On the Ustyurt Plateau, the black-bellied sandgrouses occurs all year round. During the autumn count in 2024, 87 individuals were recorded.
For reference: “South Ustyurt”National Natural Park was established on 11 November 2020 on the territory of Kungrad district of the Republic of Karakalpakstan. The territory is inhabited by 149 species of animals, 36 of which are included in the Red Book of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
