The Turkestan lynx is listed in the Red Book of Uzbekistan and Appendix II of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) as a vulnerable, declining and locally distributed subspecies.

The lynx is active mainly at night, sometimes hunting during the day, otherwise hiding in bushes. The breeding season is May-June, and may migrate after breeding if food is scarce. Its diet is based on hares, and its average lifespan is 17 years.

For reference: The Zaamin State Reserve was established on June 5, 1928, in the Zaamin and Bakhmal districts of the Jizzakh region. Among the most commonly observed species are the Tian Shan brown bear, Turkestan lynx, Siberian ibex, Griffon Vulture, golden eagle and Eurasian eagle-owl.
