Uzbekistan has ratified the Aarhus Convention

For reference: This Law was adopted by the Legislative Chamber on 11 December this year and approved by the Senate on 22 February.
It should be noted that the document was adopted in accordance with Article 49 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which states that everyone has the right to a favourable environment and reliable information on its condition.
The purpose of the Convention is to regulate co-operation related to public participation in decision-making that may have a negative impact on the ecology, environment and health of citizens, as well as to ensure access to justice. It enshrines the provision by state institutions and organisations of necessary information on components of environmental elements such as air, atmosphere, water and soil at the request of the general public, ensuring public participation in the development of programmes and plans aimed at the development of the sector.
The accession of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the present Convention serves to ensure the honourable safeguarding of human rights and freedoms in the field of ecology and the environment, the implementation of joint efforts with foreign partner States to achieve environmental security, and the further enhancement of the positive image and prestige of the country in the international arena.
