Uzbekistan calls for global cooperation in the conservation of migratory species

Held at the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Germany, the meeting brought together more than 50 high-ranking officials. Among them were S. Tidow, State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection of Germany; A. Fraenkel, Executive Secretary of the CMS Convention; S. Baumann, Director General of the Union for the Conservation of Nature and Biodiversity (NABU) and the Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Brazil, Nepal, Venezuela, Laos, South Korea and Colombia, as well as representatives from embassies and international organizations.
During the event, Uzbekistan’s strategy for nature conservation at the national and international levels was presented . Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change Aziz Abdukhakimov emphasized the importance of accession of new states to the CMS Convention and expressed readiness to provide the necessary support to the countries interested in joining the organization during Uzbekistan's chairmanship (2024-2026).
In turn, Amy Frenkel highlighted leadership role of Uzbekistan in promoting the initiative on conservation of migratory species and emphasized the importance of consolidating efforts to implement the decisions taken at the 14th Conference of the Parties to the Convention in Samarkand. She also spoke about strategic documents that will help participating countries to effectively implement environmental initiatives.
An important part of the meeting was the invitation for participants to attend upcoming international environmental events in Uzbekistan, including:
• The First Samarkand Climate Forum (April 4–5, 2025)
• The International Exhibition of Environmental Technologies – Eco Expo Central Asia (June 3–5, 2025)
• The 20th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the CITES Convention (COP20) (November 24 – December 5, 2025)
Uzbekistan reaffirms its commitment to the global environmental agenda, calling on the international community to unite in protecting nature and ensuring a sustainable future for migratory wildlife species.
