For reference: This annual competition, organized from January to March, is jointly hosted by the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change, the Prosecutor General's Office, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, and the Ministry of Preschool and School Education. All Uzbek citizens under the age of 14 are eligible to participate.
Zarrina Abdullaeva, Head of Department at the Ministry of Ecology and Executive Secretary of the organizing committee, has been visiting various regions and meeting with young eco-activists. In particular, during meetings in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Samarkand, Jizzakh, Navoi, Khorezm, Surkhandarya and other regions, emphasis was placed on ensuring the contest is held at a high level. The discussions also highlighted the importance of improving young people's legal literacy and encouraging their initiatives in environmental protection.
"Teams of eight students from all educational institutions participate in the qualifying rounds. We are now in the third stage of the competition, conducting selections in each region while ensuring transparency and fairness throughout the process", said Zarrina Abdullaeva. "Our main goal is to strengthen young people’s legal knowledge in environmental protection. It is crucial for us to train well-rounded specialists in this field", added she.
The district (city) stage will continue until February 14, followed by the regional stage from February 17 to 28, covering the Republic of Karakalpakstan, all regions and the city of Tashkent. The final (republican) stage will be held in Samarkand from March 10-12 for school students and in Khorezm from March 17-19 for vocational school students.
In the competition, teams compete in the following areas: "This Is Our Territory," "Intellectual Ring," "We Are All Responsible for the Environment," and "The Best Environmental Project." Special attention is given to youth-led projects aimed at environmental conservation, promoting eco-culture, addressing climate change, preventing deforestation, improving water resource management, increasing youth participation in environmental activities and attracting investments into the sector.
Such contests play a vital role in raising environmental legal awareness among young people, reinforcing the rule of law and fostering respect for the Constitution and other legislative acts of Uzbekistan. They also help instill a sense of legal responsibility and strengthen environmental protection efforts across the country.
