Mulberry trees illegally cut down in Jizzakh Region

The Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change received an appeal from a resident of the Dustlik district in the Jizzakh region, identified as D.N., regarding the illegal cutting of mulberry trees.

The Jizzakh Regional Department of Ecology investigated the matter and confirmed the unlawful felling of 13 mulberry trees in the coastal zone of the "Sarkisov" Canal, which flows through the "Mevazor" mahalla in the Dustlik district. This act violated articles 4, 37, and 49 of the Law  of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On the Protection and Use of Flora."

According to Resolution  No. 93 of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, "On Additional Measures to Preserve Valuable Tree Species and Shrubs Not Included in the State Forest Fund", dated February 18, 2020, certain species of mulberry trees, including the felled ones, are classified as valuable tree species.

The unlawful activity resulted in damage to flora valued at 369 million 375 thousand sums. Furthermore, according to Resolution  of the Cabinet of Ministers  No. 464, dated August 22, 2022, the compensation amount for damage caused to trees and shrubs during the moratorium on cutting down valuable species is doubled. Consequently, the total damage amounted to 738 million 750 thousand sums.

The documents related to this violation have been submitted to the prosecutor's office of the Dustlik district for legal evaluation and further action.
